This week's quiz is about Europe's largest Carnival festival.

Hot samba rhythms, long-legged dancers in glittering costumes ... but we're not talking carnival in Rio de Janeiro. These are Europeans. This carnival, said to be the biggest in Europe, is certainly the most colourful. The highlight is choosing the Carnival queen. But it's not just about beauty and charm ... costumes play a major part as well. After the winner is announced, revellers continue to dance in the streets. Everything will be in carnival chaos here until February 10th.

February Question of the Month turns to Romance!

 

 

St. Valentine's Day is the traditional day on which sweethearts express their love for each other, sending cards, gifts or flowers.

Valentine greetings were popular as far back as the Middle Ages. Written Valentines didn't begin to appear until after the 15th century and the first commercial Valentine's Day greeting cards produced in the U.S.A. were created in the 1840's by Esther A. Howland who was known as the „Mother of the Valentine". Her elababorate creations were lovingly made with real lace, ribbons and colorful pictures.

 
The U.S. Greeting Card Association estimates that approximately one billion Valentines are sent each year worldwide, making it the second largest card-sending festival of the year behind Christmas. Apparently, 85 percent of all Valentine cards sold are purchased by women!
